The new cycling season is not far off, and to be honest, you can really ride all year round, with a few small exceptions. If, like us, you love cycling, you will probably want to take the bikes out with your friends every weekend for a relaxed ride.

But you need a way to carry your bikes safely and quickly. That is where choosing the right bike rack comes in, and a very good choice here is the Menabo Alcor 3, which carries 3 bikes at a time.

The Alcor 3 is a towbar bike rack that makes every trip with your bike much easier. In case you didn't know, bike racks are divided into categories, and the one main thing that sets them apart is how they attach to the car.

So there are roof bar bike racks, rear bike racks that fit on the tailgate or boot lid, and towbar bike racks.

How do you fit the Alcor 3 bike rack?

Before you choose this bike rack, think about whether it meets your needs as a cyclist and, most importantly, make sure your car has a towbar. The rack itself fits straight onto the tow ball with the Rapid-Lock system: the Alcor 3 has a clamping lever that lets you attach it very quickly.

That said, before you choose this rack it is important to check that your towbar is compatible. Tow balls on the market generally follow the same manufacturing standard, 94/20/EC. Even so, there are small differences from one car to another.

Some tow balls are chrome-plated, some are worn, others are painted over or rusty. To cover every case and keep the rack firmly in place on the car, the lever has a tension adjuster, and you can set it without any special tools.

The rack tilts at a different angle from other bike racks, which can be a plus if your car has a larger tailgate.

The rack's arms fold down, so it is very easy to store when you are not using it. The Menabo rack also comes with a lock for the rack itself and locks for the bikes you carry.

Why choose the Menabo Alcor 3 bike rack?

The Menabo Alcor 3 works with many types of bike. As well as the classic bikes we all know, it takes road bikes, city bikes, mountain bikes, fat bikes and e-bikes. The Alcor 3 also comes with approved rear lights and a 13/7-pin plug.

The Alcor 3 carries up to 3 bikes with a combined weight of no more than 60 kg, and each bike can weigh up to 25 kg. Menabo insists that you stay within the rack's maximum load: if you force or overload the rack, there is a risk it could fail while you are driving.

The Alcor bike rack is versatile, too: it comes in several versions and configurations, so you can carry just two, three or even four bikes.

The Alcor can also be used to carry a cargo box: both the Alcor 3 and the Alcor 4 work with the Menabo Mizar cargo box.
