Weekend getaway: MyRoadTrip.ro's road trip on the Transfăgărășan and Transalpina

Come the weekend, one way or another, we just can't stay cooped up in the city. Especially at this time of year, when the weather is on our side in almost every way.

We think our friends at MyRoadTrip.ro felt much the same, because “expedition” was the first word that came to mind when they set off for the Transalpina and the Transfăgărășan.

As on any trip, the right gear matters a lot, and the guys made sure they were properly kitted out. How did they do it? Well, when you set off, it is important to know the conditions you will be travelling in and what you will need on the way.

Want a quick example? Say you are going hiking. You will need gear such as proper footwear or the right thermal top. To carry it all, you could use a Menabo Trek backpack or perhaps a 95-litre Menabo Nomad bag.

For their trip to the Transalpina and the Transfăgărășan, the MyRoadTrip.ro team chose a 35-litre Nomad bag.

A good choice for their kind of expedition. This type of bag is ideal for almost any trip. The Menabo bag is roomy, made from hard-wearing materials and easy to clean.

Because they were also planning an adventure on two wheels, the MyRoadTrip team brought their bikes along on the expedition. When you set off on a trip with your bike, you need to prepare thoroughly.

In this case, the MyRoadTrip team chose a Menabo Antares Plus bike rack for 3 bikes. This type of rack carries your bikes safely. It fits directly onto the car's towbar.

You don't need any special tools to attach the rack to the car. Why? Because the Menabo rack has a clamping lever that secures it firmly to the towbar.

The Antares Plus also has approved rear lights, so you can drive legally on any public road. The Menabo bike rack has a cable that plugs into the car's towbar socket to power the rear lights.

What's more, if you need to get into the boot while the rack is fitted, that is no problem at all: the bike rack also tilts. So if you want to take the luggage out of the car first and then the bikes, you can do it straight away.

The Antares Plus carries three bikes, with a maximum load capacity of 50 kg.

The rack also comes with locks for both the rack itself and the bikes you carry. If you are an e-bike fan, the Sirio Plus can carry e-bikes too, as it is compatible with them.

Where is your next trip taking you? Will you bring your bikes along?
