About the car: Audi A6 C7 (Typ 4G) facelift
The Audi A6 C7 has the internal code Typ 4G and was built from December 2010 to 2018, on the MLB platform shared with the Audi A7, as a 4-door saloon and as a 5-door Avant estate. The facelift was presented at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and covers 2015-2018 models, and the fitting in this post is on an A6 C7 of this version.
For a roof box, the weight the roof accepts matters. For the A6 4G saloon, Audi's official instructions for the genuine roof bars give a maximum roof load of 100 kg, which includes the bars, accessories and load, and recommend a maximum of 130 km/h with a load on the roof. On the saloon too, the mounting points for the roof bars are under the roof trims, covered with plastic plugs. If you have an A6 Avant, check the value in the car's manual.
What we fitted to this Audi A6 C7
We fitted the the Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box, a matt black ABS plastic box with a volume of 460 litres, which holds bags, trolley cases and the luggage that no longer fits in the boot. It belongs to the large roof box category, between 180 and 200 cm long, and has an outside height of about 36 cm. It opens on the right-hand side, so you load it from the pavement, not from the road, and it has an anti-theft lock.
The box comes with two fitting systems included: 60 mm U-bolts and 20 mm T mounts. For the 80 mm U mount there is an optional system with the code 000065000000. In the product sheet, the Marathon is listed as compatible with Menabo Delta, Tema, Omega, Sherman or Tiger bars, with K39 bars, with Thule WingBar, SquareBar, ProBar and SlideBar, with Yakima and with Mont Blanc Xplore.
