BMW 2 Series Active Tourer F45 with Menabo Leopard Black roof bars and Menabo Mania 400 L roof box

We fitted Menabo Leopard Black roof bars and a Menabo Mania 400 roof box on a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer at the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom in Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (F45)

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer F45 is the first generation of the model, built from August 2014 to 2021. It is a subcompact executive MPV with two rows of seats, with a 5-door hatchback body, built on the UKL2 front-wheel-drive platform. The generation that replaced it, with the code U06, was presented in October 2021.

In the photos of the car, the roof rails are raised, with a gap under them, and the foot of the roof bar clamps onto the roof rail. With the roof rails fitted correctly, the roof box or other accessories can then be fitted on the roof bars. The maximum permitted roof load must be checked before fitting, and we check it together.

What we fitted on this BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

The Menabo Leopard Black roof bars are made of aluminium, 1,200 mm long, 30 mm high and 80 mm wide. They have a 20 mm T-track for T-track fitting along the whole length, carry 75 kg and weigh 4.8 kg. The set includes 2 roof bars, 4 feet for roof rails, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key.

The Menabo Mania 400 ABS Black has 400 L, is about 165 cm long and 36 cm high, is made of glossy black ABS and comes with the 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-track fittings included. It has a lock, opens on one side and is compatible with Menabo Leopard roof bars.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Leopard roof bars carry 75 kg, and the maximum load of the Mania 400 roof box is also 75 kg; the maximum load may differ depending on the car make and model, so check the specifications given by the car manufacturer.
• The weight of the accessories, meaning the roof box and the racks fitted on the roof bars, is subtracted from the capacity of the roof bars, so work out the total before setting off.
• The roof box is 36 cm high and about 165 cm long; measure the total height of the car with the roof box fitted before garages or barriers.
• Leopard roof bars have a 20 mm T-track along their whole length, so they can take accessories with a T-track fitting, such as compatible ski racks or bike racks.
• Leopard Black roof bars come with an Allen key, so you need no other tool to tighten the fittings.
