About the car: BMW saloon, 4-door

The car in this fitting is a 4-door BMW saloon with a smooth roof, without roof rails. On a roof without rails, the roof bars have nothing to attach to on the roof, so they fix to the body, with a dedicated body-fitting kit.

The Marathon Dark 460 roof box is 36 cm high, so the car becomes taller by the height of the roof box plus that of the roof bar feet; bear this in mind at underground car parks and car washes. The roof box opens on the right side, so you load the luggage from the pavement, not from the road.

What we fitted on this BMW

The base is the set Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars with a body fitting kit: two oval aluminium bars of 1,300 mm, 30 mm high and 48 mm wide, protected with rubberised paint and an anti-corrosion coating. The set weighs 5.2 kg, carries 75 kg and has 4 locks with keys.

On the bars we fitted the the Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box, made of matt black ABS plastic, with a volume of 460 L for bags and trolley cases. The package includes a 20 mm T-track fitting, which goes straight into the T-track of the Tema roof bars, and a 60 mm U-bolt fitting; an 80 mm U-bolt fitting is optional. The roof box has a lock and is on the Menabo compatibility list with the Tema Aluminium roof bars.
