We equipped a third-generation Dacia Sandero Stepway (BJI) with a 320-litre Menabo Marathon Dark 320 roof box. Everything was fitted in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Dacia Sandero Stepway III (BJI)
The Sandero Stepway III carries the model code BJI and was launched on 29 September 2020, together with the Logan III. It is built on the Renault-Nissan CMF-B LS platform, has a 5-door crossover hatchback body and has carried the new Dacia logo since June 2022.
When you put a box on the roof of this model, the limit to keep in mind is the one in the manual: 80 kg on the roof for the 5-door versions, including bars and box. If the car has the modular roof bars, these can sit crosswise and carry at most 40 kg each, with the load evenly distributed. A box of 11 kg, like the Marathon 320, thus leaves 19 kg for the bars when you load it to the maximum.
What we fitted on this Sandero Stepway
Menabo Marathon Dark 320 roof box has 320 litres, an ABS plastic shell in matt black, right-side opening and an anti-theft lock. It carries up to 50 kg of luggage and weighs 11 kg empty.
The box comes as standard with the 60 mm U-bolt fitting. The 80 mm U-bolt fitting, with the code 000065000000, and the 20 mm T-bolt fitting, with the code 000120100000, are available as options. On the product page you will find the list of compatible bars: for some, such as Thule WingBar, ProBar and SlideBar, Yakima ThruBar/FlushBar, Mont Blanc Xplore or Menabo Leopard and Lince, one of these adapters is needed. Useful details
- The empty box (11 kg) plus 50 kg of luggage makes 61 kg on the roof.
- On the Dacia Sandero Stepway III that leaves 19 kg of the 80 kg limit, which must also cover the bars.
- On the modular roof bars, 61 kg spread evenly makes about 30.5 kg per bar, under the 40 kg limit.
- With the modular roof bars set crosswise, the manual limits the speed to 130 km/h and prohibits roller car washes.
- About every 500 km, check the fitting of the bars and tighten the screws, as the manual recommends.
- Load the luggage evenly in the box, so that the weight is split equally between the two bars.
