Hyundai Kona first generation with Menabo Lince Silver roof bars and Diamond 450 White roof box

On a first-generation Hyundai Kona we fitted a set of Menabo Lince Silver roof bars and a Menabo Diamond 450 White roof box in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Hyundai Kona first generation (OS)

The first-generation Hyundai Kona has the code OS and was built from 2017 to 2023. It is a 5-door SUV, built on a B-SUV platform derived from that of the Hyundai i30. A facelift appeared in September 2020, and the Kona Electric has been sold in Europe since 2018. Since 2020, the Kona Electric has also been built at the Hyundai factory in the Czech Republic.

For the roof, the European Hyundai manual gives 80 kg, evenly distributed, for roof bars, if the car is fitted with them. The Diamond 450 White box weighs 18 kg, so about 62 kg of the 80 kg remain, before you also subtract the weight of the roof bars. The limit is the car's, not the roof bars'.

What we fitted on this Kona

The set of Menabo Lince Silver roof bars for the Hyundai Kona 2017+ has 2 aluminium bars, 1,200 mm long, 80 mm wide and 30 mm high, for the rail-type roof rails of the car. It includes 4 fitting kits, 4 lock cylinders with keys and an Allen key. The maximum load is 90 kg, and the set is TÜV and ISO/PAS 11154:2006 certified.

On them we fitted the Menabo Diamond 450 White roof box, in gloss white, with a volume of 450 litres and a maximum load of 75 kg. It has the 20 mm T Quick Fix fitting included, an integrated lock and opens on one side. The box is TÜV and City Crash tested.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Lince Silver: 1,200 mm long, 80 mm wide, 30 mm high, maximum load 90 kg.
• Diamond 450 White: 450 litres, 75 kg maximum load, 18 kg own weight.
• Fitting: 20 mm T Quick Fix fitting included. For some types of roof bars, the optional adapter with code 000082500000 is used.
• Useful sum for the first-generation Kona: of the 80 kg on the roof, the 18 kg box leaves about 62 kg, from which the roof bars are also subtracted.
• The height of the car increases with the box and the roof bars. Check before underground car parks or barriers.
• Integrated lock on the box and lock cylinders on the roof bars, keys included.
