About the car: Kia Rio third generation (UB)

The third-generation Kia Rio has the global code UB and was built between 2011 and 2017. The model made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 1 March 2011 and came as a 3-door, a 5-door or a 4-door saloon. Our fitting is on the 5-door hatchback version.

Menabo Omega roof bars are compatible with cars that have no factory roof rails, and they attach directly to the bodywork. For a hatchback like the Rio, it matters that the set has the right fitting kit for your car.

What we fitted on this Kia Rio

The Menabo Omega Aluminium for Kia Rio (UB) Hatchback, 5-door, 2011-2015 model are 1,120 mm long, 28 mm high and 47 mm wide, with a 20 mm track on top. The set includes 2 bars, 4 fitting kits, 4 feet and the Allen key, so you do not need any other tool. The instruction manual is included in the package, and on the product page you will also find a fitting video.

The Menabo Marathon Dark 400 has a volume of 400 litres, is made of matt black ABS and carries 50 kg. It fixes to the bars with the 60 mm U-bolt fitting included, and the 20 mm T-track fitting is included too. It is compatible with Menabo Omega Aluminium roof bars, according to the product data. For the fitting steps, follow the instructions in the package.

Technical details and what to watch for

• The Omega bars are 1,120 mm long, 28 mm high and 47 mm wide, and the set weighs 4.5 kg.
• The Omega bars carry 50 kg. The Marathon box weighs 13.2 kg, and its weight is subtracted from the 50 kg, so no more than 36.8 kg remain for luggage.
• If the accessory has no T-track fitting, you can use the U-bolt fitting around the outside of the roof bar.
• The Marathon box has an anti-theft lock and opens on one side. Before an underground car park or a barrier, check the total height of the car with the box fitted.
• You can also fit bike racks on the bars. Accessories with a T-track fitting go in the 20 mm track, and those with a U-bolt fitting go around the outside of the bar.
• Before setting off, check that all the fittings are tightened.
