We equipped a brown Kia Sportage SL, 3rd generation, with Menabo Lince Silver XL roof bars and a 460-litre Menabo Marathon Silver roof box. We did the fitting in our shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Kia Sportage SL (3rd generation)
The Kia Sportage SL is the 3rd generation of the model, produced from March 2010 to August 2015. It was launched in Europe in April 2010 and was also assembled in Zilina, Slovakia. The body is a 5-door SUV, and the Hyundai Tucson (LM) shares the same technical base. For the 2014 model year, the SL received a facelift with a new grille and LED rear lights.
The roof of this Sportage SL has silver roof rails, on which we fixed the roof bars and then the box. The Menabo Lince roof bars attach to rail-type roof rails, with nothing fitted on the doors, and the box is then fixed on the roof bars. For the SL we do not have a verified official manual, so confirm the maximum roof load in the car's vehicle documentation.
What we fitted on this Kia Sportage
The bars are Menabo Lince Silver XL, made of aluminium, 1,350 mm long, 30 mm high and 80 mm wide. The wing-shaped profile reduces noise and the maximum load is 90 kg. In the box you find four fittings for the roof rails, four lock cylinders with keys and an Allen key. The roof bars are TÜV and ISO/PAS 11154 tested.
On them we put the Menabo Marathon Silver 460 roof box, a long box made of matt grey ABS plastic, with outside dimensions of 195x79x36 cm and a volume of 460 litres. It is lockable, opens on one side and is fitted without special tools. The product page lists it as compatible with Menabo Lince roof bars.

Specifications and useful tips
- The Lince roof bars carry 90 kg and the Marathon box weighs 16.6 kg, so 73.4 kg is still left on the roof bars. The real luggage limit, though, is the box's own: 50 kg.
- Also check the roof load in the vehicle documentation of the Sportage SL. If it is lower, it takes priority.
- The box comes with 60 mm U-bolt fittings. 80 mm U-bolt fittings (code 000065000000) and a 20 mm T fitting (code 000120100000) are available as optional extras. The T fitting is useful in the T-track of the Lince roof bars.
- At 195 cm long, position the box so that the tailgate can open fully without touching it.
- The box is 36 cm high. Add the height of the roof bars and of the car before entering underground car parks.
- For the Lince roof bars the fitting instructions come in the box, and the Marathon box is fitted without special tools.
