About the car: Mazda CX-5 second generation (KF)
The second generation of the Mazda CX-5, with the code KF, was unveiled on 15 November 2016 and reached Europe in May 2017. Production ran from November 2016 to 2025, and in September 2021 the generation received a facelift, with a new grille and redesigned headlights and rear lights.
The car in the article has no factory roof rails, and the Tema bars are fixed to the door frames, with dedicated feet. For the box, this means the weight goes through the bars, so the limit of the weakest element in the system counts, which here is the bars, at 50 kg.
What we fitted on this Mazda CX-5
The bars are Menabo Tema Aluminium for Mazda Cx-5 (KF), 5-door, 2017+, with an oval, aerodynamic profile. They are 1,300 mm long, 48 mm wide and 30 mm high, and the top has a 20 mm T-track for accessories with T-track fittings. The metal parts are treated with rubberised paint and anti-corrosion coating.
The box is the Menabo Satellite 600 DUO ABS Black, 197x94x45 cm, with a capacity of 600 L, an external width of 94 cm and a height of 45 cm. It opens on both sides and has a key lock and ABS construction. Fitting needs no special keys, and the pack includes the Allen keys and everything you need.
Technical details and what to watch for
- Bar capacity: 50 kg. The weight of the box and of the luggage inside is deducted from this limit.
- Box capacity: 75 kg and 600 L.
- Box weight: 18.4 kg, which is deducted from the limit of the bars together with the luggage.
- Bar weight: the bar set weighs 5.2 kg.

- Car height: the box adds 45 cm above the roof, so check the total height before entering car parks with a barrier.
