On a Volkswagen Golf 7 Alltrack, the four-wheel-drive estate version of the Golf Mk7, we fitted the foldable rack Menabo Antares on the towbar. We did the fitting in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Volkswagen Golf VII (Mk7) Variant / Alltrack
The Golf Mk7 uses the MQB platform, shared with the third-generation Audi A3, the SEAT Leon and the Skoda Octavia. The estate version was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013, and the Alltrack is the estate with slightly raised suspension, body protection, a front skid plate and four-wheel drive. The Golf 7 was facelifted in November 2016, and Golf Variant production ended in mid-2020.
The Golf we fitted, an Alltrack 2.0 TDI 4Motion, had silver raised roof rails. This means roof bars can also be fitted on the same Golf, for a roof box or for skis. For bikes, however, we chose the towbar: they sit low, do not add to the car's height and leave the roof free for other accessories.
What we fitted on this Golf Alltrack
Menabo Antares is an aluminium rack for 2 normal or electric bikes, with a maximum of 25 kg per bike and 60 kg in total. It attaches to the towbar with the Rapid-Lock system, and the bikes sit on the platform and are held by the frame. It weighs 16 kg and locks both the rack and the bikes.
If you need one more place, Menabo Antares Plus carries 3 bikes, with the same limits of 25 kg per bike and 60 kg in total. Both are foldable, tilting for boot access, compatible with e-bikes and fat bikes, and have their own rear lights with a 13/7-pin plug. The full specifications are on the product pages.

Technical details and what to watch for
- The Antares for 2 bikes weighs 16 kg; fully loaded, the towbar carries 76 kg (16 kg + 60 kg), so check the permitted vertical load of the towbar in the car's handbook.
- On the Antares, two e-bikes of 25 kg each add up to 50 kg, under the 60 kg limit.
- On the Antares Plus, three bikes of 20 kg each reach the 60 kg limit exactly; three e-bikes of 25 kg each would exceed it.
- The package of both models measures 77.5 x 59 x 80 cm, and the folded rack is easier to store.
- The tilting function gives you access to the Golf's boot without removing the rack from the towbar.
- Connect the 13/7-pin plug and check the rack's rear lights before you leave, because the bikes cover the car's lamps.
