About the car: Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203 saloon
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203 is the second-generation C-Class. The 4-door saloon was built from March 1999 to March 2007, and received a facelift at the beginning of 2004. The same generation also had the S203 estate and the CL203 sports coupé, so when ordering it matters to know exactly which body you have.
The W203 saloon has no roof rails. The Mercedes-Benz owner's manual requires the roof bars to sit only between the attachment points marked on the roof, and gives a maximum roof load of 100 kg. The manual also says that, after fitting, you must be able to open the sunroof and the boot lid fully. That is why on this W203 we used a kit that fixes directly onto the roof, designed specially for the 4-door version, and not roof bars for cars with roof rails.
What we fitted on this Mercedes C W203
We chose K39 steel roof bars for Mercedes C (W203), 4-door, 2001-2006 model, from the K39 K1 system, made for cars without factory roof rails. The package contains 2 black steel roof bars of 1,300 mm, 4 feet, 4 fitting systems dedicated to the W203 and an Allen key, the only tool you need. The roof bars have a 20 x 30 mm profile and are wrapped in a protective plastic layer, and the metal parts have a rubberised coating for better protection against corrosion. The set is TÜV and ISO approved.
On K39 roof bars you can fit bike racks, roof boxes or ski racks, on one condition: the accessory must have a classic U-bolt fitting of at least 30 mm, because the roof bar has no T-track on top. The set has no lock; K39 is designed as a simple solution, with good value for money for the W203.
