Nissan Qashqai J11 2017+ with Menabo Delta Black roof bars and Menabo Marathon 400 roof box

On a Nissan Qashqai J11 facelift, the model sold from 2017, we fitted Menabo Delta Black roof bars and a 400-litre Menabo Marathon Dark roof box. Everything was done in our shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Nissan Qashqai J11 facelift (2017-2021)

The second-generation Nissan Qashqai, with the code J11, was built between November 2013 and 2021, on the Renault-Nissan CMF-CD platform. The facelift was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017 and went on sale in Europe in July 2017, with a new front bumper, V-Motion grille and headlights with boomerang DRLs.

Before the roof bars, we look at the roof. After the facelift, roof rails come on the Tekna+ version, and cars without them have the normal roof. The Menabo Delta is designed for cars without factory roof rails and fits directly onto the roof, with a Qashqai J11 2017+ kit. For the J11 2014-2017, Menabo has a separate kit, so the year of the car matters when you order.

What we fitted on this Qashqai

The base is the set of Menabo Delta Black roof bars for the Nissan Qashqai (J11), 5-door, 2017+ model: 2 black aluminium roof bars of 1,370 mm, 4 feet, 4 fittings for the Qashqai J11, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key. The roof bars are 30 mm high and 60 mm wide, with a 20 mm track on top, a capacity of 50 kg and TÜV and ISO testing.

On top of the roof bars we put the Menabo Marathon Dark 400 roof box, made of matt black ABS plastic, with a volume of 400 litres, an anti-theft lock and opening on one side. The box comes with two fittings included, a 20 mm T-bolt and a 60 mm U-bolt, and is listed as compatible with Menabo Delta roof bars.

Technical details and tips

Menabo Delta Black roof bars: length 1,370 mm, height 30 mm, width 60 mm, aluminium, the set weighs 5.6 kg, maximum load 50 kg
Menabo Marathon Dark 400 box: 400 litres, own weight 13.2 kg, maximum load 50 kg, opens on the right, anti-theft lock included
Useful calculation: the 13.2 kg box already takes up part of the 50 kg of the roof bars, so at most 36.8 kg of luggage is left for the box on this setup
For the Qashqai J11 we have no official roof load limit from the Nissan manual; check the car's handbook and keep to the lower value
With the box on the roof the car becomes taller, so check the clearance height when entering underground car parks and garages
