Opel Astra J Saloon (P09) with Menabo Mania 460 ABS Black roof box

On a 4-door Opel Astra J Saloon we fitted the Menabo Mania 460 ABS Black roof box, with a capacity of 460 litres. Everything was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro shop, at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Opel Astra J Saloon (P09)

The Astra J, code P09, is the Opel Astra generation launched in 2009 on the GM Delta II platform. The 4-door Saloon came later: Opel first showed it in 2012 at the Moscow motor show and built it until 2018. In the same year, 2012, the facelift for the 2013 model year was announced. Besides the Saloon, the Astra J was also available as a 5-door hatchback, a 3-door GTC and a Sports Tourer estate.

On the Saloon the roof is smooth, with no roof rails, so the box cannot be fitted directly onto the car. First, the roof bars are fitted at the fixing points indicated by Opel, in the area of the holes in the roof. The Opel manual limits the roof load to 75 kg for the Saloon and the hatchback, roof bars included. With a large box such as the Mania 460, this limit matters more than the capacity of the box.

What we fitted on this Astra J Saloon

We chose Menabo Mania 460 ABS Black roof box, a glossy black ABS plastic box with a volume of 460 litres and a maximum load of 75 kg. It has an anti-theft lock and opens on one side (the right).

The box attaches to the roof bars with the 60 mm U-bolt fitting or the 20 mm T-bolt fitting, both included. The 80 mm U-bolt fitting can also be used, as an option. The product sheet lists it as compatible with Menabo roof bars (Omega, Tema, Delta, Brio and others), with K39 roof bars and with Thule, Yakima and Mont Blanc models, so you do not need an adapter.
