About the car: Skoda Fabia

The Skoda Fabia has had several generations, from the first (code 6Y, presented in Frankfurt in September 1999) to the fourth (code PJ, on sale from the end of 2021). Check in the car's documents which generation your car is before fitting.

The rack fits on the towbar, so it does not depend on roof bars. Before fitting, make sure the car's towing electrics are fully working: our guide to towbar bike racks explains that the tail light boards connect to the car's wiring through a 7-pin or 13-pin plug.

What we fitted on this Skoda Fabia

The Menabo Merak Rapid carries two bikes and has a tilting function, so you can get into the boot of the car even with the rack fitted. It is made of aluminium, weighs 14 kg and measures 121 x 35 x 18.5 cm. Product page: Menabo Merak Rapid bike rack for 2 bikes, mounted on the towbar.

The Merak can be extended with the Menabo Merak extension kit to carry 3 bikes. The rack has its own lock, and the lock for the bikes is optional (art. 000026400000). It also has a tail light board, with a 13/7-pin plug.

Fitting and safety tips

The rack carries 2 bikes, of up to 25 kg each. Check the weight of each bike before you load it onto the rack.
The rack weighs 14 kg. When you fit or remove it, lift it carefully, especially if you are working alone.
The rack takes e-bikes, but is not suitable for fat bikes. Check the bike type before you set off.
The rack has its own lock, and the lock for the bikes is optional. If you stop on the way, the lock lets you leave the bikes attached.
With the rack fitted, the tail lights and the number plate must stay visible. After every fitting, check the lights and the plate.
The 13/7-pin plug connects the rack to the tail lights. After fitting, check that the plug is properly connected and that the cable does not hang down.
