We fitted the Thule EasyFold XTF 3 rack, designed for 3 bikes, on the towbar of a post-facelift Skoda Kodiaq I (NS7) 4x4. The fitting took place in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Skoda Kodiaq I (NS7) after the facelift
The Skoda Kodiaq I, code NS7, was presented at the Paris Motor Show on 29 September 2016; production started the same year at Kvasiny, in the Czech Republic, and lasted until 2024. It is a 5-door SUV on the MQB A2 platform, with up to 7 seats if it has the optional third row. The facelift presented on 13 April 2021 brought slimmer full-LED taillights, a narrower rear window and the Skoda lettering in the middle of the tailgate.
The Kodiaq in this fitting has raised roof rails, not integrated into the roof as on the Kodiaq II. The roof bars attach to them, and the manual allows 75 kg on the roof including the bars, with the sunroof closed. On an SUV, however, bikes are harder to lift onto the roof, so the towbar rack is more practical: the bikes sit behind the car, and the roof stays free.
What we fitted on this Kodiaq
The Thule EasyFold XTF 3 rack is made of aluminium, carries 3 bikes and attaches to the towbar, with a 13-pin electrical connection. The bikes sit with their wheels in the tracks and are fixed by the frame with detachable arms, using Thule AcuTight adapters with a click torque limiter. The extra-long straps hold wheels with tyres up to 4.7 inches wide, so fat bikes too.
The maximum load is 60 kg, and the data sheet says the rack also carries electric bikes or heavy mountain bikes, within this weight. It has a key lock for the towbar fitting and for the bikes, folds completely and tilts down by pressing a pedal, so you can open the boot with the bikes fitted. It comes pre-assembled, with no extra tools needed for fitting.

Technical details and what to watch for
- The Kodiaq manual (edition 06/2023, p. 259) gives 100 kg on the ball for a trailer, but accessories on the towbar, including the load, may weigh as much as the nose weight from the approval, and no more than 75 kg.
- Calculation: from the 75 kg subtract the weight of the empty rack; what remains, but no more than 60 kg, is what the bikes may weigh.
- The 75 kg limit assumes the centre of gravity is at most 30 cm from the ball; at 60 cm it is halved, so the heaviest bike goes closest to the car.
- Before you set off, plug the rack into the car's socket and check the rear lights and that the number plate is visible.
