On the roof bars of a silver Skoda Octavia we fitted two Menabo Chrono bike racks, one for each bike. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Skoda Octavia
The modern Skoda Octavia has been offered in all generations only as a 5-door liftback or a 5-door estate. In this fitting, the photos show only the top of the car: the silver roof, the windscreen, the mirrors and the shark-fin antenna, so we cannot say for sure which generation it is.
What is clearly visible is that the roof has no roof rails, so the roof bars stand on their own feet, and the Chrono racks attach to these bars. For a roof-mounted bike rack, the type and profile of the bars matter, because they determine which fitting you use: T-track fitting in the T-track of the bar or U-bolt fitting around it.
What we fitted on this Octavia
We fitted two bike racks Menabo Chrono for roof bars, made of aluminium. Each one carries a bike of up to 25 kg, held by the wheels: a special arm locks the front wheel and keeps the bike upright, and straps fix the wheels all the way. The Chrono has a lock for both the bike and the rack, on a single key, and is TÜV and City Crash Test approved.
The rack comes with a 20 mm T-track fitting, which slides into the top T-track of the bars. For U-bolt fitting around the bar, you need the optional kit 000122700000. The product data sheet says the Chrono fits directly on Menabo Tema Aluminium, Delta, Sherman, Jackson, Tiger, Leopard and Lince, and on Menabo Tema Steel, Brio, Raven or K39 - K1 with the optional kit.

Technical details and what to watch for
- Menabo Chrono: 1 bike per rack, 25 kg at most; with two racks you carry two bikes.
- 20 mm T-track fitting included; U-bolt fitting optional, with kit 000122700000.
- Accepted frame diameter: all, and the bike is held by the wheel.
- Useful calculation: with two bikes, subtract the weight of the bars and of the two racks from the maximum load of the bars and of the roof, then the weight of the bikes.
- With bikes on the roof the car becomes much taller: watch out for garages, underground car parks and car washes.

How is a bike rack fitted on roof bars?
