About the car: Skoda Octavia III (5E)
The Octavia III (Typ 5E) went into production at the end of 2012 and was built for European markets until 2019. Besides the 5-door liftback, Skoda launched the Combi estate four months later. The liftback has a 590 litre boot and a large tailgate hinged at the roof, and the official roof load limit is 75 kg.
Even with 590 litres in the boot, roof bars are useful when you want to carry bikes, skis or an extra box. On an Octavia III without roof rails, the right option is a kit that fits onto the bodywork, made for this model. If you add a box, take the tailgate hinged at the roof into account and place the box far enough forward.
What we fitted on this Octavia
The fitted set consists of Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for Skoda Octavia III (5E): two 1,300 mm aluminium bars, four feet, four fitting kits specific to the Octavia III, four locks with keys and an Allen key. The profile is oval, 48 x 30 mm, and the metal components are protected with rubberised paint and an anti-corrosion treatment.
The main advantage is the 20 mm T-track on top: accessories with a T-track fitting go straight into the bar, and those with a U-bolt fitting are tightened around the outside. This way, the same bars can carry a bike rack in summer, a ski rack in winter and a roof box on holiday, as we explain in the guide to the reasons why roof bars are worth having.
