Suzuki Vitara 4 (LY, 2015+) with Menabo Diamond 450 White roof box

On a fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara (LY) we fitted a Menabo Diamond 450 White roof box, 450 litres, fixed onto the roof bars the car already had. We did the fitting in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Suzuki Vitara 4 (LY, 2015-present)

The Suzuki Vitara LY is the fourth generation of the model, a 5-door SUV built since March 2015 on the Global C platform and assembled for Europe at Esztergom, in Hungary. It has had two facelifts, in 2018 and in April 2024, and since March 2020 the European versions have a 48V mild hybrid system with the 1.4-litre K14D Boosterjet engine.

The Vitara in this fitting has roof rails on the roof, one of the two variants described in the Suzuki manual; the other has anchor points for a roof rack. The difference matters directly for a large box: on roof rails Suzuki allows 75 kg, on the anchor points only 50 kg, and the figure includes the weight of the bars, the box and the luggage. With a 450-litre box, this roof limit is what decides how much you load, not the volume of the box.

What we fitted on this Suzuki Vitara

We chose Menabo Diamond 450 White roof box, a glossy white ABS plastic box with a volume of 450 litres and a maximum load of 75 kg. It opens on one side (the right), has a built-in lock and is TÜV and City Crash Test tested.

The box fixes onto the 20 mm T-track of the roof bars with the T-bolt Quick Fix system included, and an optional Quick Fix clamp, item 000082500000, is also available. The compatibility list includes Menabo Tiger, Leopard, Lince, Delta and Tema bars, as well as Thule WingBar and SquareBar, without an adapter; for Menabo Brio, Raven or K39 King bars the 000082500000 adapter is needed. The box weighs 18 kg, a figure we take into account in the calculation below.

Weight calculation and tips

• Roof limit on the Suzuki Vitara LY with roof rails: 75 kg, according to the Suzuki manual (page 5-20), for the roof rack plus the load.
• Useful sum: 75 kg minus 18 kg (the Diamond 450 box) leaves 57 kg, from which you still deduct the weight of the roof bars; what is left is the maximum weight of luggage in the box.
• Put heavy luggage at the bottom and distribute the weight evenly, as the Suzuki manual requires.
• The box raises the height of the car, so check the total height before underground car parks, garages or automatic car washes.
