Suzuki Vitara LY (2015+) with a Menabo Mania 400 White 400 L roof box

We fitted a Menabo Mania 400 White roof box, holding 400 litres, on a Suzuki Vitara LY from the first phase of the generation, before the facelift. We did the fitting in our shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Suzuki Vitara LY (2015+), before the first facelift

The Vitara with the code LY is the fourth generation of the Suzuki model, a 5-door SUV built on the Global C platform. Production started in March 2015, and the car is assembled at Esztergom, Hungary, by Magyar Suzuki. The car in this fitting is from before the first facelift, the one shown at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, when the front bumper was raised for the radar.

On the roof, depending on the trim, the Vitara LY can have roof rails or anchor points for a roof rack. The difference shows in the load: the manual allows 75 kg on the roof rails and only 50 kg on the anchor points, values that include the weight of the roof rack and the load. The car in this fitting has roof rails, so the basis for the calculation is 75 kg, from which the roof bars and the box are deducted.

What we fitted on this Vitara

On the roof we fitted the Menabo Mania 400 ABS White roof box, a 400-litre box made of glossy white ABS plastic, which opens on one side. It has a lock, so your luggage stays protected when you stop and leave the car parked.

For fixing, the box comes with two fittings: a 60 mm U-bolt and a 20 mm T-track, and an 80 mm U-bolt fitting is available as an optional extra (item no. 000065000000). The product sheet lists it as compatible with a long list of bars, from Menabo Tiger, Leopard, Lince or Delta to Thule WingBar and Yakima ThruBar/FlushBar.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Mania 400 White volume: 400 litres, maximum load 75 kg.
• On the roof rails of the Vitara LY, the total made up of roof bars, box and luggage must not exceed 75 kg. The weight of the box and the bars is deducted from this value, so the actual luggage stays under 75 kg.
• If your Vitara has anchor points instead of roof rails, the limit drops to 50 kg, roof rack plus load.
• Fittings included: 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-track; 80 mm U-bolt optional.
• The box is about 36 cm high, which adds to the height of the bars. Check the total height before a garage or car parks with a height limit.
• Load heavy items at the bottom and spread the weight evenly, as the Suzuki manual requires.
