About the car: Toyota Avensis T250 (second generation), estate
The second-generation Toyota Avensis, with the code T250, was built from January 2003 to 2009. The model was launched in February 2003, and in 2006 it received a mid-cycle facelift. The estate has 5 doors, and in the photo it has raised roof rails and the rack on the towbar.
For a towbar rack, what matters is that the car has a towbar, because the rack attaches to it, not to roof bars or the tailgate. The Alcor has a tilting function, so access to the boot stays free even with the rack fitted.
What we fitted on this Avensis
The Menabo Alcor is a bike rack that attaches to the towbar with a Rapid-Lock lever system. It has a tilting function, a lock for the rack and for the bikes, a rear light board and a 13/7-pin electrical plug. The versions are Menabo Alcor 2, Menabo Alcor 3 and Menabo Alcor 4, for 2, 3 or 4 bikes.
The bikes are secured on the platform of the rack by the frame, and the maximum weight of each bike is 25 kg. The difference from roof-mounted racks is explained in the guide to roof-mounted and towbar-mounted bike racks.
Technical details and what to watch for
- Alcor specifications: 2, 3 or 4 bikes, 25 kg per bike, maximum load 60 kg, aluminium, silver colour.
- Lock: the rack and the bikes have separate locks.
- Tilting: the rack tilts away, and the boot stays accessible with the rack fitted.
- Rear lights: the rack has a rear light board and a 13/7-pin electrical plug.
- E-bikes: the Alcor is compatible with e-bikes and fat bikes. The maximum weight of each bike is 25 kg, and the 60 kg maximum load of the rack must be respected.
