On this first-generation Toyota C-HR we fitted Menabo Tema Steel roof bars and, on top of them, a grey Fabbri Nova 430 roof box. Everything was done in our shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Toyota C-HR first generation (AX10/AX50, 2016-2023)
The first-generation Toyota C-HR, with the codes AX10 and AX50, was produced from November 2016 to September 2023 and sold in Europe from the beginning of 2017. It is a 5-door SUV on the TNGA GA-C platform, the same as the Corolla E210, and the facelift was presented in October 2019.
For a roof box, the starting point is the roof: on the first-generation C-HR it has no roof rails, so roof bars are fitted first, with feet clamped onto the door frame. The Menabo Tema kit used here is the one for the C-HR 5-door, 2016+. Only after that is the box placed on the bars. We did not find the roof load given by Toyota in an official manual, so check it in the car's handbook.
What we fitted on this Toyota C-HR
The Menabo Tema Steel bars for the Toyota C-HR are 1,300 mm long, with a 30 x 48 mm oval profile, anti-corrosion protection and a plastic cover. The set comes with 4 feet, 4 vehicle-specific fitting kits, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, and has a capacity of 50 kg. The bar has no T-track, so accessories fix with U-bolt clamps on the outside.
The Fabbri Nova 430 roof box is 430 litres, with a maximum load capacity of 75 kg and external dimensions of 175 x 80 x 44 cm. It is made of glossy grey ABS plastic, opens on one side, has an integrated lock and is TÜV Test and City Crash Test tested. It fixes with an 80 mm U-bolt fitting, and the product page lists it as compatible with the Menabo Tema Steel bars. Allen keys for fitting are included in the package.

Technical details and what to watch for

- Load calculation: the box weighs over 12 kg, and from the 50 kg of the bars, under 38 kg remain for luggage, even though the box could carry 75 kg.
- With the box on the roof, the car's height increases by at least 44 cm, plus the bar feet; keep this in mind at underground car parks and garages.

The Fabbri Nova 430 is 175 cm long, 80 cm wide and 44 cm high. On a first-generation Toyota C-HR, the 44 cm adds to the overall height of the car on top of the bars, so it is worth measuring the height before car parks with limited clearance.
Do the Menabo Tema bars work with any roof box?
