About the car: second-generation Toyota RAV4 (XA20)
The Toyota RAV4 XA20 is the second generation of the model. It was built from May 2000 to November 2005 on the Toyota MC platform and went on sale in July 2000. In Europe it was sold with 3 and 5 doors. At the end of 2003, for the 2004 model year, it received a styling update, a redesigned interior and better equipment. The car in this fitting is a black 5-door RAV4 XA20 with raised roof rails.
For the rack we chose, the rear of the car is what matters. RAV4 generations before the XA40, the XA20 included, have a side-opening rear door with the spare wheel mounted on it. The Menabo Boa 3 rack hooks onto this wheel, so on the RAV4 XA20 you need neither a towbar nor roof bars to carry bikes.
What we fitted on this Toyota RAV4
The Menabo Boa 3 rack attaches to the SUV's spare wheel with hooks and straps and carries up to 3 bikes. Each bike can weigh no more than 15 kg, and the maximum load is 45 kg. The bikes sit on the platform of the rack.
The Boa 3 is made of steel, silver in colour, weighs 11.3 kg and is foldable. The product sheet lists it as compatible with spare wheels from 195/80 R15 to 265/70 R16 and with cars where the spare wheel is not centrally positioned. A bike lock is optional, code 26400000. - Compatible spare wheels: from 195/80 R15 to 265/70 R16. Check the size printed on the RAV4's spare tyre.

- The rack has no lights of its own, so after loading check that the number plate and the rear lights are still visible.
- The Boa 3 is not compatible with e-bikes or fat bikes.
