About the car: Volkswagen Caddy 2K (3rd generation)

The Caddy 2K is the 3rd generation of the Caddy, with production starting in Poznan in November 2003. It has two body lengths, standard and Maxi. The Life version is the passenger one, with two sliding doors. The generation received a facelift in late 2010 and a second one in 2015, called the Caddy 2K SA.

For roof bars, the roof matters a lot. The Caddy 2K has fixing points in the roof: 2 on each side on the standard version and 3 on each side on the Maxi. The maximum roof load is 100 kg, with a minimum of 2 base bars, fitted as far as possible in the area of the pillars. The 100 kg load is the one from the official VW guide for Caddy bodies. The car in this post has no roof rails, which is why the Menabo Tema bars fix directly to the bodywork.

What we fitted on this Caddy 2K

The set is Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for the Volkswagen Caddy 2K, with 2 aluminium bars of 1,120 mm, 4 fixing systems, 4 feet, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key. The bars have TÜV and ISO approvals, and the oval, aerodynamic profile helps keep air resistance to a minimum while driving.

On top, the bars have a 20 mm T-track for accessories with a T fitting, such as bike racks, roof boxes, ski racks or kayak and canoe racks. If the accessory has a U-bolt fitting, it is fixed around the outside of the roof bar. Technical details and what to watch for

Capacity: the bars carry 75 kg. The weight of the accessory and of the luggage must stay within the 75 kg of the bars.
Dimensions: length 1,120 mm, height 30 mm, width 48 mm, aluminium. The set weighs 4.9 kg.
Roof: the maximum load on the Caddy 2K roof is 100 kg. The limit that counts is the lower of the two figures, that of the bars or that of the roof.
Height: after the accessories are fitted, the car becomes taller. Check the total height before using underground car parks and barriers.
