About the car: Volkswagen Polo

The standard Volkswagen Polo has a roof with no factory roof rails, so the roof bars clamp directly to the body, with clamps on the door frames. In the Polo range, the CrossPolo version, offered only with 5 doors, has silver factory roof rails instead.

That is exactly why the fitting kit has to be chosen according to the exact model and number of doors of the car, especially before you put a large roof box on the roof. The Delta bars are fitted with the body-mounting system that suits your car, and this is checked together in our shop.

What we fitted on this Volkswagen Polo

The base of the fitting is the Menabo Delta Black roof bars, in black aluminium, with an aerodynamic profile, 1,370 mm long, 30 mm high and 60 mm wide. The set includes 4 body-mounting fixings, 4 feet, 2 bars, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key. On top, the bars have a 20 mm channel for T-track accessories, and accessories without a T-track fitting are fixed with U-bolt clamps on the outside of the bar.

On the bars we fitted the Menabo Mania 460 ABS White roof box, made of gloss white ABS plastic, with a capacity of 460 L and a maximum load of 75 kg. The box comes with the 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-track fittings included, has a lock and opens on the right-hand side. On the Delta bars, the box is fixed with the T-track fitting, which goes straight into the 20 mm channel.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Delta Black bars carry a maximum of 50 kg; the Menabo Mania 460 box weighs 20.2 kg, so 29.8 kg remains for luggage in the box.
• The Mania box is rated for 75 kg, but the real limit is set by the bars, at 50 kg, including the box.
• The Delta Black bar set weighs 5.6 kg and the bars are 1,370 mm long.
• The Mania 460 comes with the 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-track fittings included; the 80 mm U-bolt fitting is optional.
• With the box on the roof the total height of the car increases, so check the height when entering underground car parks and garages.
