Volkswagen T-Cross 1st generation: Menabo Brio roof bars and Menabo Mania 460 roof box

On the Volkswagen T-Cross we fitted the Menabo Brio roof bars and the Menabo Mania 460 roof box, in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Volkswagen T-Cross, generation 1 (C11)

The Volkswagen T-Cross is a 5-door SUV of generation 1, with model code C11. Production started in December 2018, the official launch was in April 2019, and the model received a facelift in 2023. For Europe it is built at the Volkswagen Navarra plant in Pamplona, Spain. In Menabo product titles it appears as 1C.

On the white T-Cross in this post you can see black roof rails, which the feet of the roof bars attach to. The Brio roof bars fit onto the roof rails, not directly onto the body, so the factory roof rails are the base of this fitting. The box is then fixed on the roof bars.

What we fitted on this T-Cross

We fitted the Menabo Brio roof bars for the Volkswagen T-Cross (1C) 2018+. They are made of aluminium, 1,200 mm long, with a 14 mm T-track along the whole length. The set comes with 2 bars and 4 pre-fitted feet, which are tightened with the Allen key from the box.

On the roof bars we fitted the Menabo Mania 460 roof box, in gloss white, with a capacity of 460 litres. It is lockable, opens on one side and comes with 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T fittings included, so you need no special tools for fitting.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Fitting the Brio roof bars: the feet come pre-fitted on the roof bars. You fix them onto the car's roof rails with the Allen key from the box. The instruction manual is included in the box.
• Accessories on the roof bars: the 14 mm T-track takes accessories with a T fitting. Those with a U-bolt fitting are fixed around the bar.
• Capacity: the Brio roof bars carry 90 kg, and the Mania 460 box takes 75 kg of luggage. The weight of the box is deducted from the maximum load of the bars, and you will find the maximum roof load of the car in the car's manual.
• Height: the box is 36 cm high. After fitting, the car is taller by the height of the box and the roof bars, so check before driving into car parks with a height barrier.
