About the car: Volkswagen Tiguan (5N), first generation

The first-generation Volkswagen Tiguan, with the code 5N, is a 5-door SUV built on the PQ46 platform, derived from PQ35. The generation was built between 2007 and 2018. The pre-facelift version, with rounded headlights and a chrome grille, is found up to the 2012 models, and the facelift for the 2012 models was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011.

On the Tiguan 5N in this fitting the roof has no factory roof rails, so Menabo Tema bars fit directly on the roof, with the fitting kit. With a roof like this, choosing the bars and the kit is the first step, and the box is fitted only after the bars are firmly fixed.

What we fitted on this Tiguan

The roof bars Menabo Tema Aluminium for the Volkswagen Tiguan (5N), 5-door, 2007-2011 model have an oval, aerodynamic profile, for minimum drag while driving. They are 1,300 mm long and have a 20 mm T-track on top, for accessories with a T-bolt fitting, and the metal parts are treated with a rubberised coating and corrosion protection.

On the bars we fitted the Menabo Mania 320 roof box, with a volume of 320 L, ABS material and an anti-theft lock. The box has a 60 mm U-bolt fitting included, and a 20 mm T-bolt fitting can be ordered as an option; the box is fitted on the bars without special tools.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Tema bars are 1,300 mm long, 30 mm high and 48 mm wide, and the set weighs 5.2 kg.
• The maximum load is 50 kg for the bars and 50 kg for the Menabo Mania 320 box. The weight of the box and the luggage is deducted from the maximum load of the bars, so do the calculation before you set off.
• The Mania 320 box opens on the right, is gloss black and has an anti-theft lock. The bar set includes 4 locks and an Allen key, so you do not need any other tool.
