About the car: Volkswagen Touareg

The Touareg is a 5-door SUV made by Volkswagen over several generations. The first generation (7L) was on the PL71 platform between 2002 and 2010, and the second generation (7P) was built between 2010 and 2018 on the PL72 platform. For model year 2015, the 7P generation received bi-xenon headlights as standard.

The Mistral rack fits on the tailgate or the boot lid, not on the roof bars, so fitting does not depend on the type of roof rails. What matters is that the tailgate is clean and allows the straps to be fastened, so that the rack stays stable on the road.

What we fitted on this Touareg

We fitted the Menabo Mistral bike rack for 3 bikes, attached to the tailgate or boot lid. The rack has a maximum load of 45 kg, is made of steel, folds and is fixed with the straps supplied. It has 6 contact points on the bodywork, and the bikes touch each other on the rack.

The contact points with the car are rubber with a rubberised coating, which does not scratch the paintwork. The rack is ISO tested and approved, and you can carry fat bikes on it, but not e-bikes.
