Menabo Igloo and Himalaya magnetic ski racks for the roof

For the ski season we have prepared two Menabo magnetic ski racks, the Igloo and the Himalaya, which you can find in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania. Both attach to the roof and are for skis.

About the car: the metal roof and the magnetic ski rack

Magnetic ski racks attach directly to the car's roof, so the roof must be metal. Menabo states that the Igloo and the Himalaya are not compatible with panoramic roofs or sunroofs, nor with non-metal roofs or roofs with ribbing or unevenness.

Before you buy, check the type of roof on your car. If you already have roof bars, you can choose instead ski racks for roof bars, which attach to the bars and do not depend on the metal of the roof.

The ski racks we chose

Menabo Igloo is a plastic rack for two pairs of skis. It has a rubber base, a strong magnet and rubber straps to hold the skis. It is City Crash tested, weighs 2.9 kg and takes 12 kg.

Menabo Himalaya carries two pairs of skis and 4 poles, has a loading width of 10 cm and takes 14 kg. It weighs 4 kg, is made of plastic and is City Crash tested, and the lock protects both the rack and the equipment. Both models are for skis, so they do not carry snowboards. You will find the fitting instructions below as a PDF.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Igloo specifications: 2 pairs of skis, 2.9 kg, maximum load 12 kg, magnetic mounting, black.
• Himalaya specifications: 2 pairs of skis and 4 poles, 4 kg, maximum load 14 kg, magnetic mounting, black, lock for the rack and for the equipment.
• Roof: clean the roof surface before fitting, so that the magnet holds on a clean surface.
• Fitting: the skis are held with rubber straps. According to the guide to the Menabo Himalaya with magnetic mounting, fitting takes 1 to 2 minutes, and the flap opens with the key in the box.
• Weight: weigh the skis and equipment, so that you stay under the weight limit stated by the maker.
