Certification to EN 16662-1:2020 shows that a product meets the common European technical and safety requirements for traction aids used on roads covered with snow or ice, such as textile snow socks and other alternatives to snow chains. Here is what certification involves:

1. Safety and performance

The standard tests how effective products are in real-world conditions, making sure they provide the grip needed on slippery surfaces without compromising the safety of the driver or the vehicle.

2. Vehicle compatibility

EN 16662-1:2020 sets requirements for how traction devices interact with the vehicle's wheels. Tests check that the devices:

• Do not interfere with braking systems (e.g. ABS, ESP).
• Do not damage tyres or rims.

3. Material quality

The materials used must be hard-wearing, must not damage the road surface and must be safe for the user.

4. Easy fitting and removal

The standard also requires the devices to be easy to fit and remove, even in difficult conditions (cold, snow, ice).

5. Legal requirements in Europe

Devices certified to EN 16662-1:2020 meet a common European standard. The rules on using them, including in areas where traction devices are compulsory in winter, are set by each country, so please check the regulations of the country you are driving in.

With products certified to this standard, you can be confident you are buying a high-quality product that meets European safety and performance requirements.
