The big advantage of tailgate bike racks is that they are quick to fit and can be stored almost anywhere. Their design and the way they work let them fold flat, which makes racks of this type ideal for storage. They are also low-maintenance, which is a real plus if you use your rack often.
How do I fit this rack?
First of all, make sure your car is compatible with racks that fit on the tailgate or boot lid. Menabo racks come with fitting instructions in the box, and it is very important to follow them carefully, in the right order.
Before fitting the rack, make sure the tailgate is clean. The rack's contact surfaces need to sit snugly against your tailgate. If there is sand or dust on the tailgate when you attach the rack, you risk scratching the car.
You will notice that the rack has hard rubber pads: these are the parts that actually touch the car.
Once the tailgate is clean and you are ready to attach the rack, take care to position it correctly in the centre of the tailgate.
Apart from the rubber pads, you will see that some racks also have a set of straps with metal hooks finished in a rubberised coating. These hook onto the edge of the tailgate or boot lid to keep the rack stable.
If the edge of your tailgate or boot lid is not metal, you will find a set of adapters in the Menabo pack to help with fitting.
Once the rack is in position and the straps are attached, check how firmly it is held. Try moving it from side to side to see how well you have secured it. It should stay fixed in place on the car, without moving or slipping.
The last fitting step for a tailgate rack is loading the bikes. Make sure the bikes' handlebars and pedals do not touch the car's bodywork. The bikes must be secured with the straps supplied with the rack.
Why choose a rack like this?
Should you get one of these racks or not? It is a natural question, with plenty of simple answers.
These racks are cheaper than roof bar or towbar bike racks. Tailgate racks are quick and very easy to fit, and they are always very easy to store too.
Whether you live in a house or a flat, a tailgate rack folds flat and can be stored in a storage cupboard, the garage or any small space.
Did you know that, of all the types of bike rack, tailgate racks make it easiest to load and unload your bike?
With a rack like this you can carry as many as 3 bikes at once, without worrying that they will arrive scratched or damaged. Menabo's tailgate bike racks are tested and designed so that they do not scratch your tailgate or your car either.
