On an Audi A6 C6 (Typ 4F) saloon we fitted the Menabo Mistral bike rack, mounted on the boot lid, in our SuportBicicleta.ro shop in Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Audi A6 C6 (Typ 4F) saloon

The Audi A6 C6 has the internal code Typ 4F and was built in Germany from February 2004 until June 2011, on the Volkswagen Group C6 platform. Besides the saloon, the range received the Avant version in 2005 and the allroad quattro in 2006. The facelift was presented on 12 August 2008 at the Moscow motor show and brought LED daytime running lights in the headlights and tail lights that extend towards the centre of the boot lid. The car in our photos is a pre-facelift saloon, with the tail lights only on the wings.

On the saloon in the post the tail lights are only on the wings, so the bikes must be placed so that the tail lights and the number plate stay visible. The Mistral is strapped to the boot lid, and compatibility is checked for each model and body type in the applicability list of Menabo racks.

What we fitted on this Audi A6 C6

We fitted the Menabo Mistral bike rack for 3 bikes, attached to the tailgate or boot lid. It is a steel, folding rack, ISO tested and approved, which fixes to the bodywork at 6 points with the straps supplied. The contact points with the car are rubber with a rubberised coating, so they do not scratch the Audi's bodywork.

The bikes are held by the frame with clamps, and the rack takes any frame diameter. On the Mistral the bikes touch each other, so when loading check that the pedals and handlebars do not touch the bodywork. The rack takes fat bikes, but not e-bikes. • Capacity: 3 bikes, 45 kg maximum; for example, three bikes of 15 kg reach exactly the limit.
• Dimensions: 52 x 67 x 10 cm; being foldable, the Mistral is easy to store in the boot, a cupboard or the garage.
• Before fitting, clean the boot lid, so that dust or sand under the pads does not scratch the paint.
• After tightening the straps, move the rack left and right: it must stay firmly in place on the Audi A6, without slipping.
• The Mistral has no lock for the rack or the bikes, so do not leave the bikes unattended on the car.
