BMW 3 Series F31 Touring with Menabo Tiger Silver roof bars and Menabo Marathon 400 roof box

About the car: BMW 3 Series Touring F31 (sixth generation)

F31 is the body code of the estate version of the sixth-generation BMW 3 Series, F30/F31/F34, built from October 2011 to 2019. The estate was launched with the 328i, 320d and 330d engines, and the LCI facelift arrived in 2015, for model year 2016. The platform is the BMW L7.

On the car in the fitting, the silver roof rails are integrated and sit flush against the roof, and the Menabo Tiger Silver bars fix onto them. On this type of roof, the roof bars fit on the existing rails, and the Marathon box then fixes onto the roof bars.

What we fitted on this BMW 3 Series F31

The Menabo Tiger Silver are made of aluminium, 1,200 mm long, 28 mm high and 48 mm wide. They are made for the BMW 3 Series (F31) Touring and have a 20 mm T-track along their full length for a T fitting. The set includes two bars, four pre-assembled feet, the Allen key and a lock.

The Menabo Marathon Dark 400 has 400 litres, is made of matt black ABS and opens on one side. It is 165 cm long, comes with 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T fittings, has a lock, and is compatible with Menabo Tiger bars. You will find the fitting instructions for the roof box below, in PDF.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Bars: aluminium, 1,200 mm long, with an oval profile that helps keep noise down while driving. The guide to roof bar noise shows that driving speed matters too.
• Capacity: the bars carry 75 kg, and the box carries 50 kg. The weight of the box is deducted from the limit of the bars.
• Height: with the box on the roof, the car becomes taller. Check the height before using underground car parks or car parks with barriers.
• Anti-theft lock: the bars and the box have a lock.
