About the car: BMW X3 F25 (2010-2017)
The BMW X3 F25 is the second generation of the model, a 5-door SUV on the BMW L7 platform, built between September 2010 and August 2017 at the Spartanburg plant in the USA; with the F25, production moved there from Magna Steyr in Austria. In 2014, for the 2015 model year, it received the LCI facelift, with revised headlights (LED optional), a new grille and new bumpers.
For roof bars, the roof matters. The X3 F25 existed with and without roof rails: on the BMW UK list of March 2012, the xDrive20d SE had them as standard in satin aluminium, and the M Sport in High-gloss Shadowline. The Lince Silver XL kit here is made for rail-type roof rails, so it attaches to them, not to the body. The BMW data sheet valid from 04/2014 gives a roof load of 100 kg for the xDrive30d and xDrive35d; for other engines we have not confirmed the figure, and the real limit is the lower of the roof load and the load of the bars.
What we fitted on this BMW X3
We chose Menabo Lince Silver XL roof bars for the BMW X3 (F25) 2010-2017. The bar is 1,350 mm long, 80 mm wide and 30 mm high, made of silver aluminium, with a wing-shaped profile that reduces noise and drag. A full-length 20 mm T-track runs along the bar, for accessories with a T-bolt fitting.
In the box you will find 2 bars, 4 feet for the rail-type roof rails, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, the only tool needed. The kit is TÜV and ISO/PAS 11154:2006 approved and has a maximum load of 90 kg: room for a roof box, a bike rack, a ski rack or a kayak carrier.

Technical details and what to watch for
- The Menabo Lince Silver XL bars have a maximum load of 90 kg; the roof of an X3 xDrive30d or xDrive35d allows 100 kg, so the limit stays at 90 kg, and the weight of the accessory is deducted from it.
- For accessories with a U-bolt fitting, first check whether the bracket fits around an 80 mm wide bar; those with a 20 mm T-bolt fitting go straight into the track.
- The instruction manual is included in the box.
- With an accessory on the roof, the BMW X3 becomes taller, so keep that in mind at garages and underground car parks.
Frequently asked questions
Which roof bars fit the BMW X3 F25 with roof rails?
On the BMW X3 F25 (2010-2017) with roof rails we fitted Menabo Lince Silver XL, a vehicle-specific kit that attaches to the rail-type roof rails with 4 feet. The bar is 1,350 mm long, with a wing-shaped profile and a 20 mm T-track. On an X3 F25 without roof rails, the roof bars attach to the door frames, with a different type of kit.
How much weight do the Menabo Lince Silver XL bars carry on the BMW X3 F25?
The Menabo Lince Silver XL bars have a maximum load of 90 kg. On the BMW X3 F25 xDrive30d and xDrive35d, the 2014 BMW data sheet gives a roof load of 100 kg, so the limit stays at 90 kg, and the weight of the fitted accessory is deducted from it.
Do the Menabo Lince bars for the BMW X3 F25 have an anti-theft lock?
Yes. The Menabo Lince Silver XL set for the BMW X3 F25 comes with 4 locks with keys, in addition to the 4 feet and the Allen key.
Why do roof bars whistle on a BMW X3?
Any set of bars changes the aerodynamics, so noise can also appear on the BMW X3 F25, especially with accessories. The wing-shaped profile of the Menabo Lince bars reduces it, and Menabo recommends a maximum of 130 km/h with the bars fitted. Details in the guide Why do my roof bars make noise while driving.
