BMW X5 G05 with Menabo Lince Silver XL roof bars and Yakima EasyTrip roof box

On a BMW X5 of the G05 generation we fitted Menabo Lince Silver XL roof bars, fixed to the integrated roof rails, and a Yakima EasyTrip roof box. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: BMW X5 G05 (since 2018)

The BMW X5 G05 is the fourth generation of the model, built since August 2018 on the CLAR platform, the same one used by the 7 Series G11 and 5 Series G30. The LCI facelift, with redesigned headlights and tail lights, went into production in March 2023. The BMW press sheet for the X5 xDrive30d G05 gives a maximum roof load of 100 kg and 140 kg on the towbar, the same values as for the xDrive45e plug-in hybrid.

On the X5 G05 in this fitting the roof rails are integrated, flush with the roof. That is why the roof bars need fittings made for this type of roof rail, not those for raised roof rails, set apart from the roof. The 100 kg roof limit is above the 90 kg of the Lince roof bars, so for the roof box and luggage the reference is the capacity of the roof bars.

What we fitted on this BMW X5 G05

We used Menabo Lince Silver XL roof bars for BMW X5 (G05) 2019+, made of aluminium, with a wing-shaped profile and an 8 cm section, designed to reduce noise and air resistance. The set has 2 bars of 1,350 mm, 4 feet for integrated roof rails, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, the only tool needed. The roof bars carry 90 kg and are certified to TÜV and ISO/PAS 11154:2006.

The 20 mm T-track along the whole length of the roof bars makes them suitable for all types of roof carriers, from roof boxes to bike racks, ski racks and kayak carriers. On this X5 we also put a Yakima EasyTrip roof box on the roof bars.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Lince Silver XL roof bars for X5 G05: 1,350 mm long, 30 mm high, 80 mm wide, aluminium, capacity 90 kg.
• Useful calculation: the empty weight of the roof box is subtracted from the 90 kg of the roof bars, and what is left is what you can load into it.
• Roof: BMW gives 100 kg for the X5 G05 (xDrive30d and xDrive45e), above the capacity of the roof bars, so you respect the 90 kg limit.
• Height: the roof box on the roof bars adds height above the SUV's roof, so check garages and car parks with limited height.
• The roof bars have no PDF manual on the site, but the instruction manual is included in the package, together with the Allen key.
