Menabo Brio Roof Bars and Marathon Dark 460 Roof Box on a Dacia Duster II (HM)

We equipped a Dacia Duster II (HM) with Menabo Brio roof bars and a Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box of 460 litres. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom, which you can now find at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Dacia Duster II (HM)

The second generation of the Dacia Duster, code HM, was announced in Frankfurt in September 2017 and went on sale in Romania in November 2017. Production for Europe lasted until 2024, and the car has a 5-door crossover SUV body. In June 2021 Dacia presented the facelift, which can be recognised by the new light signature at the front and rear. Menabo lists the roof bars for this car as Duster III 2018-2023, but it is the same Duster HM.

What made our job easier is the roof. According to the 2018 Dacia brochure, roof rails are standard on all trim levels: black on Essential and Comfort and with a satin chrome look on Prestige. Roof bars that attach to roof rails, such as the Menabo Brio, are the natural solution here. The same brochure gives a maximum roof load of 75 kg for each engine, a figure we use in every load calculation.

What we fitted on this Dacia Duster

The Menabo Brio roof bars are made of aluminium and have an aerodynamic profile that helps reduce noise and drag. Each bar is 1,200 mm long and has a 14 mm T-track on top, where accessories with a T-track fitting attach: bike rack, ski rack, roof box or kayak carrier. The set contains 2 bars, 4 pre-assembled fittings and an Allen key, so you need no other tools.

On top of the roof bars we fitted the Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box. It holds 460 litres, has a matt black ABS shell and an anti-theft lock. It opens on one side, on the right, and comes with two fitting options in the pack: 60 mm U-bolts and 20 mm T-track fittings. The product sheet lists it as compatible directly with the Menabo Brio roof bars, and in the adapter field the sheet says that none is needed.

Technical details and what to watch for

Menabo Brio: 2 aluminium bars of 1,200 mm, section 48 x 28 mm, silver, anti-theft locks, maximum load 90 kg, TÜV tested and tested to ISO/PAS 11154:2006.
Menabo Marathon Dark 460: 460 litres, matt black ABS, opens on the right, anti-theft lock, 60 mm U-bolts and 20 mm T-track fittings included, 80 mm U-bolts optional.
On the Dacia Duster II, the 75 kg roof limit (Dacia brochure 2018) is lower than the 90 kg of the roof bars, so it is the one that counts. Deduct the weight of the roof bars and the box from it, then load your luggage.
With a box about 36 cm high on top of 28 mm bars, the car grows by almost 39 cm above the roof rails, plus the height of the fittings. Check the height before you enter a covered car park.
The instructions for the Brio roof bars are not on the site as a PDF, but the manual comes in the pack, together with the Allen key.
