Dacia Duster II (HM) with Menabo Diamond 500 L roof box, glossy black

We fitted a Menabo Diamond 500 Black roof box, with 500 litres and a length of 209 cm, on a Dacia Duster II (HM). Everything was done in our shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Dacia Duster II (HM), 2017-2024

The second-generation Dacia Duster, code HM, is a 5-door crossover SUV built on the Dacia B0+ platform and produced for Europe between 2017 and 2024. The car in the photos of this fitting, a dark grey Duster II, can be recognised from behind by its cross-pattern tail lights and the DUSTER lettering on the tailgate. The Menabo Brio roof bars for this model are listed in the catalogue as Duster III 2018-2023, but the years are those of the HM generation.

Dacia's launch brochure for Romania (2018) shows factory-fitted roof rails on the Essential, Comfort and Prestige trims and a maximum roof load of 75 kg, the same for all seven engines. That matters with a large box like the Diamond: the box alone weighs 19.6 kg, so the roof's weight budget is used up quickly. For the Duster II facelift, on sale from September 2021, we do not have the value confirmed.

What we fitted on this Duster

The Menabo Diamond 500 Black roof box (209 x 79 x 36 cm) holds 500 litres, carries a maximum of 75 kg and is made of glossy black ABS plastic. Its outside dimensions are 208.4 cm long, 77.7 cm wide and 36.6 cm high. It is TÜV tested and City Crash tested, opens on one side and has an integrated lock.

It fits directly onto the roof bars with T-bolts and the included 20 mm Quick Fix quick-fit system. An optional Quick Fix clamp system is also available, item no. 000082500000. This matters on the Duster II: on Menabo Brio roof bars the Diamond box is fitted with this adapter, while on Menabo Delta, Tema, Omega or Thule WingBar and SquareBar roof bars it fits directly.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Volume 500 litres, dimensions 209 x 79 x 36 cm, weight 19.6 kg, maximum load 75 kg, opens on one side (right).
• Calculation for the Duster II: 75 kg permitted on the roof (Dacia 2018 brochure) minus the 19.6 kg of the box leaves 55.4 kg, from which you still subtract the weight of the roof bars; you can put the rest in the box.
• The Quick Fix adapter 000082500000 is required on Menabo Brio and Raven roof bars and on K39 K1 Steel and K39 King.

• The box adds 36 cm to the height of the Duster, plus the height of the roof bars; keep this in mind for garages and underground car parks.
