Dacia Logan I (L90) saloon 2004-2012 with Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars

On a 4-door Dacia Logan I saloon we fitted roof bars Menabo Tema Aluminium, the set made for the 2004-2012 model. We did the fitting in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Dacia Logan I (L90), Saloon 2004-2012

The first-generation Dacia Logan carries the code L90 and was officially launched in June 2004, with sales starting in September 2004. It was built in Romania between 2004 and 2012, on the Dacia B0 platform, as a 4-door saloon and also as an estate, van and pick-up. On 1 July 2008 the facelift version, called the Dacia New Logan, was announced. The car in this fitting is a pre-facelift Logan I saloon.

The roof of this Logan has no roof rails, so the roof bars attach directly to the car body: the feet sit on the roof, and the fittings are secured to the door frames. That is why dedicated fitting kits are used rather than universal ones. The Logan I user manual (edition NU 732-1) gives a permitted load on the roof bars of 80 kg, which includes the carrying devices: the bars, the box or the racks.

What we fitted on this Logan

We chose Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for the Dacia Logan, 4-door, 2004-2012 model, a set designed for cars that have no factory roof rails. The pack contains 4 fitting kits made for the Logan, 4 feet, 2 aluminium bars, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, so no other tool is needed.

The Tema bar has an oval, aerodynamic profile for the lowest possible wind resistance, and the metal components are treated with a rubberised coating and anti-corrosion protection. On top there is a 20 mm T-track, where bike racks, roof boxes, ski racks and kayak carriers attach with T-bolt fitting. Accessories without a T-track fitting can be fixed with U-bolts on the outside of the bar. The set is TÜV and ISO tested.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Tema bar dimensions: length 1,300 mm, height 30 mm, width 48 mm, in silver aluminium.
• The Tema bar set weighs 5.2 kg, and the maximum load is 50 kg.
• A useful calculation: subtract the weight of the accessory from the 50 kg of the bars. For example, the Menabo Marathon Dark 400 box weighs 13.2 kg, so you have 36.8 kg left for luggage. The 5.2 kg bars plus a 50 kg load make 55.2 kg, below the 80 kg permitted on the Logan I roof.
• The instruction manual is included in the box, and it is best to follow it step by step.
