Dacia Logan I saloon with Menabo Biki boot lid bike rack for 3 bikes

On a Dacia Logan I saloon we fitted the Menabo Biki bike rack, strapped to the boot lid. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Dacia Logan I (L90/U90/F90, 2004-2012)

The first-generation Dacia Logan (L90/U90/F90) debuted in 2004 and was built in Romania until 2012, on the Dacia B0 platform. It came as a 4-door saloon, an estate, a van and a pick-up, and the Logan MCV estate was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2006. In July 2008 the facelift was announced, called the Dacia New Logan. The car in this fitting is a Logan I saloon, recognised by the vertical tail lights of the first generation.

The Logan I saloon has no tailgate and no roof rails, but a classic boot lid. Racks that fit on the tailgate or boot lid, such as the Menabo Biki, rest on the lid and are held by straps attached to its edges, so you do not need roof bars or a towbar. It is a simple solution for people who take their bikes along occasionally and want a rack that is easy to remove and store.

What we fitted on this Logan I

The Menabo Biki bike rack is made of steel, folds and can carry up to 3 bikes, with a maximum load of 45 kg. It fixes to the tailgate or boot lid through 6 contact points on the bodywork, and the bikes hang by the frame, whatever its diameter.

The Biki's arms have no clamps, but ridges that hold the bikes in position. The rack takes fat bikes but not e-bikes, has no lock, and the bikes touch each other. The colour is silver and black, and on the product sheet you will find the car applicability list, the fitting instructions and the specifications as PDFs.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Biki capacity: a maximum of 3 bikes and 45 kg in total, which is on average 15 kg per bike when you load all three.
• The rack weighs 4 kg and the pack is 67 x 52 x 10 cm, so folded it is easy to store in the boot or in a cupboard.
• Before fitting, clean the boot lid and the contact areas; the fitting steps are described in the guide to tailgate-mounted racks.
• After loading, check that the tail lights and the number plate are not covered and that the pedals or handlebars do not touch the bodywork.
• For women's bikes, small racks that hold the bike by the frame may need a frame adapter, as we explain in the guide to roof-mounted or tailgate-mounted racks.
• On the new generation, the Dacia Logan III (from 2020), the Dacia manual prohibits any bike rack attached to the boot lid.
