Ford Focus II (C307) with a white Menabo Mania 460 L roof box on roof bars

On a Ford Focus II (C307) facelift, a 5-door hatchback, we fitted the Menabo Mania 460 ABS White roof box on the car's roof bars. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Ford Focus II facelift (C307)

The Ford Focus II, code C307, uses the Ford C1 platform and was built for Europe from August 2004 to 2010, among other places in Saarlouis, Germany, and Valencia, Spain. It was offered as a 3-door and 5-door hatchback, 4-door saloon, 5-door estate and 2-door coupe-convertible. The facelift was presented in Frankfurt in September 2007 and went on sale in the UK from February 2008; all the exterior panels were reworked except the roof, with a trapezoidal grille and swept-back headlights.

The car in the post is a 5-door hatchback without roof rails, so the roof bars attach to the door frames, with feet on the bodywork. The Mania box does not go directly on the roof but on these bars, so two limits matter: the capacity of the bars and the roof load permitted by Ford. For the Focus II we have no official roof load figure, so check it in the car's handbook.

What we fitted on this Ford Focus II

The Menabo Mania 460 ABS White roof box has a volume of 460 L and a maximum load of 75 kg. It is made of gloss white ABS plastic, weighs 20.2 kg, has a lock and opens on one side, the right. Fitting is quick: the 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-bolt systems are included, and an optional 80 mm U-bolt system is available, code 000065000000.

Technical details and what to watch for

• The empty box weighs 20.2 kg, and this weight is deducted from the capacity of the bars: on 50 kg bars, for example, 29.8 kg remain for luggage, even though the Mania accepts up to 75 kg.
• To use the box's full 75 kg, the bars and the roof must accept at least 95.2 kg (20.2 kg for the box plus 75 kg of load).
• With the box on the roof, the car is taller by the height of the box and bars; watch out for garages, underground car parks and car washes.
