About the car: Ford Focus II (C307) facelift
The Ford Focus II carries the internal code C307 and uses the Ford C1 platform. It was launched at the Paris Motor Show on 25 September 2004, as a 3- and 5-door hatchback and as an estate, and production for Europe ran from August 2004 until 2010. The 4-door saloon came in mid-2005. The facelift was presented in Frankfurt in September 2007, on sale from February 2008, and can be recognised by its trapezoidal grille and swept-back headlights.
For a tailgate-mounted rack the bodywork matters, not the roof. The 5-door hatchback has a tailgate, and the Menabo Viper rests on it and is fixed with straps, so the roof stays free. At the facelift Ford redesigned all the exterior panels except the roof, which is why the compatibility of a tailgate-mounted rack is checked against the exact version of the car (pre-facelift or facelift and number of doors), not just the name Focus II.
What we fitted on this Focus II
On the tailgate of this Focus we put the Menabo Viper bike rack for 3 bikes. It is a foldable steel rack, fixed to the car with 6 special straps supplied in the pack, placed at 6 points. The surfaces that touch the bodywork are covered with rubber and rubberised paint so they do not scratch the paintwork, and the rack is tested to ISO standards.
The bikes are held by the frame, with clamps, and three can be carried at once, with a total weight of at most 45 kg. The Viper accepts any frame diameter and is compatible with Fat Bikes, but it is not designed for electric bikes. On the rack the bikes touch each other, so when loading it is worth checking that the handlebars and pedals do not touch the bodywork, as we also explain in the guide fitting steps for tailgate bike racks.
The Viper has no lock, either for the rack or for the bikes.

Technical details and what to watch for
- Capacity: 3 bikes and a maximum of 45 kg in total, which is on average 15 kg per bike when the rack is full.
- Fixing: 6 straps at 6 points of the bodywork; you need no roof bars or towbar.
- Packed dimensions: 60 x 13 x 100 cm; the rack folds when you are not using it and stores easily.
- The fitting instructions, specifications and the car compatibility list are on the Menabo Viper product page; check your Focus version in the list before ordering.
- After fitting, gently move the rack left and right: it must stay firmly in place, without sliding.
- With the bikes on the tailgate, check before setting off that the number plate and tail lights remain visible.
