About the car: Ford Kuga III (C482), since 2019
The third-generation Ford Kuga has the code C482 and made its debut on 2 April 2019. It is the first Ford SUV built on the C2 platform, the same one used by the current Focus, and the cars for Europe are assembled at the Ford plant in Valencia, Spain. In January 2024 the model received a facelift.
The Kuga in this fitting has raised roof rails, so the roof bars were attached directly to them. One more detail matters: the roof equipment. The Ford manual for the Kuga III gives a maximum roof load of 75 kg for cars without a panoramic roof and 60 kg for those with a panoramic roof, with the load distributed evenly across the roof bars, not placed directly on the roof. The bars, the empty box and everything you put in it count towards this limit.
What we fitted on this Ford Kuga III
On the roof we placed a set of Menabo Tiger Black roof bars, and on top of them the Menabo Marathon Dark 400 roof box. The box has a volume of 400 litres, is made of matt black ABS plastic, has an anti-theft lock and opens on the right side. The product sheet lists it as compatible with Menabo Tiger bars without an adapter, so the two products work together on this Kuga.
For fitting, the box comes with two systems included: 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-track, and an 80 mm U-bolt system is available as an option. Empty, the Marathon Dark 400 weighs 13.2 kg and carries a maximum of 50 kg of luggage.

Technical details and what to watch for
- Menabo Marathon Dark 400 box: 400 litres, maximum load 50 kg, own weight 13.2 kg, matt black ABS, lock.
- Calculation for a Ford Kuga III without a panoramic roof: 13.2 kg box + 50 kg luggage = 63.2 kg, to which you add the weight of the bars; the total must stay under 75 kg.
- On a Kuga III with a panoramic roof the limit drops to 60 kg: from it you deduct 13.2 kg for the box and the weight of the bars, and what remains is what you can actually load in the box, even though it accepts 50 kg.
- The Marathon Dark 400 box is about 36 cm high, to which the bars add; keep that in mind for underground car parks, garages and car washes.
- Menabo recommends not exceeding 130 km/h with the bars fitted; you can read more about bar noise while driving in our guide to the sounds roof bars make.
- Fitting instructions and technical data sheets for the box are available as PDFs on the product page.
