About the car: Mazda 2 DE, second generation

The Mazda 2 DE is the hatchback version of the second-generation Mazda2, built from May 2007 to November 2014. The 4-door version, the saloon, has the code DH, and the European facelift was launched at the end of 2010, for model year 2011.

On the tailgate of the car in the post photo there is a spoiler above the rear window, and the rack is strapped to the tailgate, not to the roof. Before fitting, clean the tailgate so the contact surfaces sit well on the paint.

What we fitted on this Mazda 2

The rack is the Menabo Steel Bike 2 bike rack for 2 bikes, tailgate or boot lid mounting. It is made of steel, weighs 11.5 kg and is foldable. The bikes are secured on the platform by the frame and wheels. The rack attaches to the tailgate with dedicated straps at 6 points, and the rubber pads and clips protect the bodywork.

Useful details before fitting

• The rack takes 2 bikes, accepts all frame diameters, and the bikes are secured by the frame and wheels.
• The Menabo Steel Bike 2 is not compatible with e-bikes or fat bikes. For e-bikes and fat bikes you can look at the towbar-mounted bike racks category and check on each model's page whether it accepts this type of bike.
• A bike lock is optional, item 000026400000. The rack itself has no lock.
• After fitting, check that the rack sits firmly on the car, that the bikes do not touch the bodywork and that the rear lights and number plate stay visible.
