In brief

  • Car: Mazda 3 BP 4-door saloon, generation produced since 2019

  • Capacity: maximum 50 kg on the bars
  • Fitting: fitted to the body, with dedicated fitting kits

About the car: Mazda 3 fourth generation (BP) Saloon

The fourth-generation Mazda 3 has the code BP, has been built since 2019 and uses the Skyactiv Small Product Group platform. It debuted in Europe in March 2019, both as a hatchback and as a saloon. The car in the fitting is a grey 4-door saloon with a clean side profile and no character line.

The Mazda 3 BP roof has no roof rails, so the roof bars are fixed to the body, with dedicated fitting kits. Mazda sells separate original roof bars for the hatchback and for the saloon, so it is worth choosing the kit for your body type. According to the Mazda UK price and specification guide, the maximum roof load is 75 kg on both body types; the guide does not say whether the figure includes the weight of the bars.

What we fitted on this Mazda 3 BP Saloon

We fitted the Menabo Delta Black roof bars, in black aluminium, with an aerodynamic design. The bar is 30 mm high and 60 mm wide, and the set carries a maximum of 50 kg and is TÜV and ISO certified. On top there is a 20 mm T-track, in which accessories are fixed with T-track fittings; accessories without a T-track system are fixed with U-bolts around the outside of the bar.

In the pack you get 4 fitting kits, 4 feet, 2 black aluminium bars, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, the only tool needed. On the Delta bars you can fit bike racks, roof boxes, ski and snowboard racks or a kayak rack.

Technical details and what to watch for

  • Bar profile: 30 mm high, 60 mm wide, black aluminium, 20 mm T-track on top.
  • Capacity: the bars carry 50 kg, below the 75 kg allowed on the Mazda 3 BP roof, so the limit to respect is 50 kg.
  • Useful calculation: deduct the weight of the accessory from the 50 kg; for example, a 15 kg roof box leaves you 35 kg for luggage.
  • Fixing accessories: with T-track fittings in the 20 mm T-track or with U-bolts on the outside; with U-bolts, check in the accessory data sheet that the bolts go around a 60 mm wide bar.
  • Anti-theft lock: 4 locks with keys.
  • Height: with the bars and an accessory on the roof, the saloon gets taller; keep this in mind in underground car parks and car washes.
  • Instructions: the instruction manual is included in the pack.

Frequently asked questions

Which roof bars fit the Mazda 3 BP saloon?

On the Mazda 3 BP saloon we fitted Menabo Delta Black aluminium bars, which are fixed to the body with dedicated fitting kits, because the roof has no roof rails. Mazda lists separate original bars for the saloon and the hatchback, so tell us the exact body type when you choose the kit.

How much weight can the Mazda 3 BP roof carry?

According to the Mazda UK specification guide, the Mazda 3 BP roof carries a maximum of 75 kg, on both the hatchback and the saloon. With the Menabo Delta Black bars the limit becomes 50 kg, the lower of the two values, and the weight of the accessory is deducted from it.

What accessories can I fit on the Menabo Delta Black bars?

On the Menabo Delta Black bars you can fit bike racks, roof boxes, ski and snowboard racks or a kayak rack. Accessories with T-track fittings go into the 20 mm T-track, while those with U-bolt fittings go around the outside of the bar; see the models in the category roof-mounted bike racks (on roof bars).

Do roof bars make noise on the Mazda 3 while driving?

Roof bars, even aerodynamic ones like the Menabo Delta Black, change the aerodynamics of the car and can make noise, especially with accessories fitted and at high speed. Our guide says not to exceed 130 km/h with the bars fitted. More in the guide Why do my roof bars make noise while driving?.
