Nissan Qashqai with Menabo Omega Steel roof bars on a roof without roof rails

On a white Nissan Qashqai without roof rails we fitted a set of Menabo Omega Steel roof bars. We did the work in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Nissan Qashqai J10 (2006-2013)

The Nissan Qashqai J10 started the Qashqai line in 2006 and was built until 2013, on the Renault-Nissan C platform, as a 5-door crossover SUV. In December 2009 Nissan announced the facelift, which went on sale in March 2010. In parallel, from July 2008 the 7-seat Qashqai+2 was also built, longer (4,535 mm, wheelbase 2,760 mm), with a different bar kit from the 5-seat Qashqai.

On the J10 we have seen two types of roof: plain, without rails, and with raised silver roof rails. The car in this fitting has a plain roof, so the roof bars have no roof rails to attach to and sit on feet fixed to the edge of the body. That is why the choice starts from the fitting kit that suits the generation and body of the car, not only from the bars. We did not find the J10 manual, so take the maximum roof load from the car's handbook.

What we fitted on this Qashqai

We used the Menabo Omega Steel, Menabo's economy steel range, designed for cars without factory roof rails. The set has 2 black bars with a rectangular profile, 1,300 mm long, 22 mm high and 32 mm wide, 4 feet, 4 fixings and an Allen key. The bars are TÜV and ISO certified and carry a maximum of 50 kg.

On the Omega Steel you can fit bike racks, roof boxes, ski and snowboard racks or kayak and canoe racks. The steel bar has no 20 mm T-track on top, so accessories attach with a U-bolt fitting around the outside of the bar. The lock is not included, but it can be added separately, with item 000084800000.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Omega Steel bar dimensions: 1,300 mm long, 22 mm high, 32 mm wide, rectangular profile, black.
• Maximum load: 50 kg; the weight of each accessory fitted on the bars (box, bike rack or ski rack) is deducted from this value.
• No T-track: choose accessories with a U-bolt fitting, which go around the bar on the outside.

• The instruction manual for the Omega Steel bars is included in the pack.
• Bars with a square or rectangular profile can be noisier at speed than oval ones; Menabo recommends a maximum of 130 km/h with the bars fitted.
