A 5-door Opel Astra J hatchback left our showroom with a set of Menabo Delta Silver roof bars, the base for a box, bike rack or ski rack. We did the fitting in our SuportBicicleta.ro shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Opel Astra J (P09), 5-door hatchback
The Astra J, internal code P09, is the fourth generation of the Opel model and uses the GM Delta II platform. It was launched in Frankfurt in 2009, reached showrooms in November 2009 as a 2010 model, and the hatchback was built until 2015. The range included the 3-door GTC, the 5-door hatchback, the saloon and the Sports Tourer estate, and in June 2012 it received a facelift for model year 2013.
On the 5-door hatchback the roof is smooth, without roof rails; roof rails exist only on the Sports Tourer. Opel provided fixing points on the roof hidden under covers, which come off with a coin, and the feet of the bars attach there. That is why we used a kit made specially for the Astra (J), 5-door. The manual limits the roof to 75 kg, bars included.
What we fitted on this Astra J
We chose the Menabo Delta Silver roof bars for Opel Astra (J), 5-door, 2010-2016, from the new Delta range with an improved aerodynamic design. The bars are made of silver aluminium, are 1,190 mm long, 30 mm high and 60 mm wide, and are TÜV and ISO approved. The set contains 4 fittings for the Astra J, 4 feet, 2 bars, 4 lock cylinders with keys and an Allen key, and no other tools are needed.
On top, the Delta has a 20 mm track in which accessories with a T fitting attach. If your rack or box only has a U-bolt fitting, it is fitted in the classic way, around the outside of the bar. This way, on the same bars you can fit in turn a roof box, a bike rack, a ski and snowboard rack or a kayak rack, depending on the season.

- The load capacity of the bars is 50 kg. The roof of the Opel Astra J hatchback takes 75 kg including the bars, so after the 5.2 kg of the bars 69.8 kg remains, but the practical limit for accessories and luggage stays at 50 kg.
- The weight of the accessory is deducted from the 50 kg: for example, a 13 kg box leaves room for 37 kg of luggage.
