About the car: Opel Astra J (fourth generation)
The Opel Astra J, code P09, was presented in Frankfurt in 2009 and went on sale in November 2009, as a 2010 model. It uses the GM Delta II platform, and the hatchback was built between 2009 and 2015. The range included the 3-door GTC, the 5-door hatchback, the saloon and the Sports Tourer estate, and in June 2012 Opel announced a facelift for the 2013 model year.
Only the Sports Tourer has roof rails. The 5-door hatchback has a roof without roof rails, with fixing points hidden under covers which, according to the manual, come off with a coin. So the roof bars have to be attached with a kit made exactly for this body. Opel allows 75 kg on the roof of the hatchback, including the roof bars, and the Sports Tourer has 100 kg.
What we fitted on this Opel Astra J
We fitted the the Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for Opel Astra (J), 5-door. They are 1,120 mm long, 48 mm wide and 30 mm high, with an aerodynamic oval profile and a silver colour. The metal parts are treated with rubberised paint and an anti-corrosion coating, and the set has 4 anti-theft locks with keys and TÜV and ISO approval.
On the top side, the roof bars have a 20 mm T-track channel, where you can fit bike racks, roof boxes, ski racks or kayak carriers. Accessories without T-track fixing mount U-bolt style, on the outside of the bar. For this Astra J kit, the product page gives a maximum load of 50 kg.

- The load capacity of the roof bars on the Astra J is 50 kg, so that is the limit for accessories and cargo, even though the roof accepts 75 kg; the roof bars weigh 4.9 kg.
