About the car: Renault Fluence, single generation (X38)

The Renault Fluence with the code X38 was built for Europe between 2009 and 2015 and has a 4-door saloon body. The model is based on the Renault-Nissan C platform and had a facelift in 2012, presented at the Istanbul motor show.

What we fitted on this Renault Fluence

We fitted the Menabo Mistral bike rack for 3 bikes, tailgate or boot-mounted. It fits on the tailgate or boot lid and is secured with the straps in the box. The contact points with the car are rubber with a rubberised coating, designed not to scratch the bodywork. The rack is certified and ISO tested.

The Mistral folds when not in use and carries 3 bikes, with a load capacity of 45 kg. The Mistral takes fat bikes, but it does not take e-bikes. For e-bikes you can look at the category of towbar-mounted bike racks and check on each model's page whether it accepts this type of bike.

Technical details and what to watch for

Load capacity: 45 kg maximum, for 3 bikes. Check the weight of the bikes before fitting, so that you do not go over the limit.
Fixing: the bike frame is secured with clamps, and the rack has 6 contact points on the body. It is compatible with all frame diameters.
The bikes touch each other on the rack, so protect the frames before you attach them.
Anti-theft: neither the rack nor the bikes have a lock, so do not leave the bikes unattended on the rack.
After fitting, check that the rear lights and the number plate remain visible.
Folding: the rack is foldable, so it can be tilted away when it is not in use.
