About the car: Renault Laguna II (X74)
The Renault Laguna II, code X74, was built between December 2000 and October 2007. It was offered as a 5-door hatchback and a 5-door estate, called Grandtour or Sports Tourer depending on the country. The platform used was Renault M2. In March 2005 it received a facelift, with a moderate redesign of the front air intake. The Laguna II was also the first car available in Europe with five stars in the Euro NCAP test.
The hatchback has no factory roof rails, so the roof bars stand on feet resting directly on the roof. The photo of the fitting shows the smooth roof, without roof rails, with a Menabo box fitted on the bars. That is exactly why the type of fixing matters: the Menabo Tema set fits directly to the body, with the system made for the model.
What we fitted on this Renault Laguna II
The Menabo Tema Aluminium for Renault Laguna II includes 2 aluminium bars, 4 fitting kits, 4 feet, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, so no other tool is needed. The bars have an oval aerodynamic profile and a 20 mm T-track on top.
Accessories with a T fitting fix directly in the track of the bar. If the accessory has no T fitting, you can attach it with the U-bolt fitting on the outside of the roof bar. On the Tema bars you can fit bike racks, roof boxes, ski racks or kayak and canoe racks.
On these bars we also fitted the Menabo Mania roof box, which adds space for luggage.
Technical details and what to watch for
- Bar dimensions: length 1,120 mm, height 30 mm, width 48 mm, aluminium. The set weighs 4.9 kg.
- Maximum load: 50 kg. From this figure you deduct the weight of the accessories and the luggage. For example, a 5 kg rack and 25 kg of luggage add up to 30 kg of the 50 kg.
- The capacity may be lower on other car makes and models, so check the car maker's data before a heavy load.
- The bars are TÜV and ISO certified, and the locks come with keys, so accessories can be locked onto the bars.
