About the car: Skoda Fabia II (5J)

The Skoda Fabia II, internal code 5J, was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007 and built from April 2007 to June 2014. It uses the PQ24 platform and was offered as a 5-door hatchback and a 5-door estate (Combi); the saloon was dropped. The facelift, presented in Geneva in 2010, is recognisable by the shape of its front bumper and headlights.

The Fabia II hatchback we worked on has no roof rails, so the roof bars attach to the door frames.

What we fitted on this Skoda Fabia II

On this Skoda Fabia II we fitted a set of K39 roof bars attached to the door frames, suited to the roof without roof rails on the hatchback version. If you have the same car and want roof bars for it, in our showroom we show you roof bars that we have and help you choose the right set.

Once fitted, the roof bars give you room for more accessories: roof boxes, roof-mounted bike racks, ski and snowboard racks or kayak and canoe carriers. See the guide with 8 reasons why roof bars are worth getting. Choose any accessory by the load capacity of the bars and by the type of fitting their profile accepts.

  • You will find the maximum roof load in the car's manual. Subtract the weight of the bars and of the accessory from it, and what is left is the maximum weight of the load.
  • Before you fit a bike rack on the bars, make sure the bars are fitted correctly and that the rack's fitting suits the bar profile, as we explain in the guide to fitting bike racks on roof bars.
  • With accessories on the bars, the car becomes taller. Check the height before you enter underground car parks, garages or automatic car washes.

Why do roof bars whistle at speed on a Skoda Fabia II?

Roof bars change the aerodynamics of the car, and noise depends on the profile of the bars, the accessories fitted and your speed. Bars with a square profile are more likely to whistle than those with an oval profile, and Menabo recommends not exceeding 130 km/h with the bars fitted. You can try moving the feet of the bars slightly forward or back, but this does not guarantee the whistling goes away, as we explain in the guide to roof bar noise.
